1If you have a stellar body like an olympian that no worries, but if you have a fat beer gut, its plain disgusting by American standards, the east coast, mainly South Beach, is more euro/latin americans, but the gulf coast is mainly families and they dont wear speedos, unless they are on a swim team...

2I've never heard of a law against speedos.
They have been out of fashion since the early- mid 1980's, and if you wear them in a way that appears you are deliberately trying to show off your "package" you'll get some derisive stares and head shakes.
I'd say go ahead an wear the speedos, but understand not everyone on the beach will agree.

4guffaw, yeah something like that.
I grew up on a swimteam in the '70s. everyone wore speedos.
Somewhere in the '80s speedos went out of style and everyone was wearing those pant-like things that balloon up when you jump in the water and, create more drag than a parachute when you swim.
I held out as long as I could, but when i started looking like that guy I "aged-up" and switched over to the more current style.

7"Do I have to buy Boardshorts?"
No, you do not have to. Don't know what beaches you're planning on visiting, but you might wish you were wearing
a pair of boardshorts after hearing some laughter on the beach around you. In America, speedos are reserved for Olympian Michael
Phelps and his colleagues.
They have quick-drying nylon boardshorts now that won't take up much more luggage space than the speedos. Also, they can serve a dual-purpose as walking shorts which, uh, speedos will never do.

8I still have nightmares of the fat Russians on the beach in Goa, speedos and all. shudder. Please, if you have a gut like mine (as do many Russians, apparently), do the rest of the world a favor and wear a mumu or a tablecloth or something.

9Of course you can wear speedos, however you will probably receive stares and comments, especially depending on your body type. You coud buy some cheap shorts at a thrift store, put them on after you get out of the water and dry off so you dont have to worry about ]drying off wet shorts, and then just leave them behind in your hotel when you checkout.

12In Australia - they're called budgie smugglers - and yes - if you have the right bod, they'd be fine. But a pair of baordshorts from a thrift shop sounds the right ticket.
BTW a budgie = a budgerigar (a nice native bird that does get smuggled out of the Land Down Under).
