Masterchef.........is the latest hit show in Italy.
Very high viewing figures, and it seems that the latest craze is attending cooking courses (there are at least 3 new ones in my city alone).
I know the programme has been going on in other countries for a while..
Do any of you watch it?
What do you think?

3I don't watch any of these shows, and there are certainly a bundle of them in France in recent years -- Masterchef, Top Chef, and various programmes about inviting strangers to dinner and having them judge you -- not to mention those awful shows about how to fix a bad restaurant. I find the whole concept to be ignomious horror. Food is supposed to be a pleasure. It is always a bit "dangerous" but it should not be a cause for public humiliation.

5I watch a couple,-- Chopped, Top Chef, etc.-- while on the boring treadmill at the gym early in the morning. Something nicely perverse about putting in some mileage while watching competing chefs assemble entire meals around artichokes or bacon... Also have seen Dinner Party Wars which I find horrific. I would HATE to go to a meal like any of these!

6I just can't stand the way the dinner competitions are filmed -- it's as bogus as the Amazing Race and things like that. Can you imagine shopping while being followed around by a camera crew and then having them in your kitchen while you're trying to make dinner? Most of us can't even abide the presence of a family member in the kitchen when we're making an important meal, but a camera crew? Come on! My suspension of disbelief only goes so far.
