California Road Trip - Meeting ThorntreersHi team
We have settled the Californian sector of our forthcoming trip (this is where we spend each night):

06-May — Los Angeles (Santa Monica)
07-May — Santa Barbara
08-May — Morro Bay
09-May — Monterey
10-May — Bug Hostel (Yosemite NP)
11-May — Bug Hostel (Yosemite NP)
12-May — Bug Hostel (Yosemite NP)
13-May — South Lake Tahoe
14-May — Tahoe City
15-May — Sacramento
16-May — Sacramento
17-May — San Francisco
18-May — San Francisco
19-May — (Flying to Atlanta GA)
If anyone is in any of these very desirable locations, it would be nice to meet up for a brief moment, if the stars and planets align.
Given the absence of PMs, I can be reached via contacts in my business website - www.tilbastreet.com.au
(This is not spam - I have no aspirations to make wine labels for the Californian market!)

2Ian, despite your harsh words in my Antarctica thread in 2009, and your subsequent refusal to host me and my liquor in your house during the 2009 Melbourne piss-up, I would be happy to meet up in San Francisco. Unfortunately, I will be traveling to Mongolia those dates. Best of luck though! It's a lovely time of year to visit California!

I don't remember either of those two untidy events Mad Max ... but I pride myself on my selective recall. And anyway - the past is a foreign country. Enjoy Mongolia (if that is what one does in Mongolia) - but don't go near the yak milk!

4I thought you were staying in Culver City while in LA? Found something better in Santa Monica? If so, very nice :)
Curious, why are you splitting up the Tahoe stay?

5Yes - we are staying in Super 8 Culver City cookiee - but we like to think of it as "Santa Monica Heights". We will essentially take all day to almost-circumnavigate the lake counter-clockwise, and since we are heading to Truckee > Nevada City > Sacramento the next day, had we stayed in South Lake Tahoe for two nights, it would have resulted in considerable back-tracking.
Plus we do regular road-trips - and find the rhythm of single-night stays anywhere suits us almost as well as 2-3 night stays.

6It's a good location near Marina del Rey where my family lives :) And you're close to both the 10 and the 405. Take Pacific Ave along the beach to Santa Monica to avoid traffic! Lincoln can get pretty bad. And when you go inland to West Hollywood, take Venice or Washington Blvd all the way down to Fairfax Ave.

We arrive into LAX at 7:00am Sunday, and plan to pick up the car, go straight to the Getty Centre, and then spend the afternoon seeing "Hollywood" things, the markets, and La Brea Tarpits. All Monday is Marina del Ray - Venice - Santa Monica,
And arriving from Australia into LAX (14 hours non-stop) seems never to induce jetlag ... which is nice,

8There isn't much to see in Marina del Rey for a tourist unless you want to check out boat docks. I'd spend most of your time in Santa Monica and Venice seeing Venice canals, Main St, boardwalk, Promenade, Pier, Montana Ave etc. If you have time, try to eat at this cafe that's located right on the sand on the beach.
