Best Car Rentals between Canada and the StatesHi there,
Just shouting out to anyone that can recommend a good and reasonably priced car rental company which allows you to travel one way and drop off across the border. My partner and I are planning a trip through the States and Canada and our first driving journey will be from Quebec City to Washington DC.
Hope this makes sense and hope to hear from some experienced travellers!

1Here's my standard answer:
There is no set "cheapest car rental." Any agency may be the cheapest at any time, dependent on dates, routes, etc.
kayak.com, priceline, expedia, travelocity, orbitz, hotwire, the individual agencies, etc., etc., etc.
Make sure you compare prices like for like (some focus on subtotals, others totals).
It will take a lot of effort on your part.
See FAQ 144.
In general, the farther you get from borders, the harder it is to rent and/or drop off a rental across one.

2That tends to be difficult! A better approach is often to do two one-way rentals. One from your origin to the Canada/US border (or just past it), and one from the border to your destination. Example search on Expedia:
Quebec - Washington 3/13 - 3/20: $1554
Quebec - Buffalo 3/13 - 3/16 + Buffalo - Washington 3/16 - 3/20: $439 + $209 = $648
Less than half the price. If you make the first rental domestic, you should be able to squeeze the price down further (but you'd have to cross the border on foot/public transport, which might be inconvenient). Moreover, if you have insurance already covered, you can use brokers or other tricks to get the price down by another 50% or so. Best of luck!

3Dropping cars across borders is usually $$$, There are a few exceptions as noted above.
I would train from QC or fly to US, then get a car.
Also, this is not an ideal route to drive, the I-95 corridor from north of NYC/Philly to Wash DC is congested, ugly and hardly worth the efforts.
Also, there are age restrictions if you are under 25, will pay higher rates.
