Good eats in La Condessa

Going to be in La Condessa area of Mexico City for a few days, want to check out the tuesday market but curios if anyone has any other culinary suggestions? What would be a cool breakfast spot? and where could a foodie find some real grub, not just fancy plates? Thanx

An unabashed plug here - try Cafe 22 in La Condessa for dinner operated by friends of ours. Food is excellent and they have live performances in a professional small theatre in a separate part of the restaurant (saw Gabriela Roel perform a Frida monologue there couple years ago - just excellent). The food is excellent and the place is friendly, frequented by Mexican film stars, but there is a strong gay vibe if that bothers you.

Azul Condesa is not to be missed, though you can also check them out in their sister locations in the Centro or at UNAM. Best to visit Chowhound, which is the go-to-place for restaurant and food advice. Your question is asked often on that board.

Great new little falafel spot on the south side of the park, Falefito. It's open late too w/sidewalk tables.

El Califa at the corner of Altata and Alfonso Reyes. There are plenty of fancy foods places in Comdesa but this is a great relatively inexpensive cultish taqueria, awesome pastor and beef tacos with cheese plus surprisingly great chicken soup, great espresso drinks, and amazing tres leches, totally unexpected for a taqueria.
