I think I will leave Houston and Dallas out. So the plan now is to fly into Miami. Maybe a day trip or a night in everglades, 2 days checking out Miami, south beach, driving onto Orlando few days at parks, fly to New Orleans spend a few days there then renting a car and driving the river route to Memphis (night or two) then onto Nashville (again night or two) and onto Chicago and hope to have at least a week here.
Any other in between recommendations whether it be good, food, sightseeing etc would be great :)

There is no lodging in the park, except for campgrounds.

There is nothing in Houston and Dallas IMO, most Americans dont even go there unless they have to...

Ok excellent. So would a day trip to everglades from Miami be doable?

If you had to choose longer in New Orleans or Chicago which would you choose?? Need to cut back on some days due to cheaper flights home a little earlier. Cheers for suggestions in advance.

Chicago has more to offer than New Orleans. You can get more out of a shorter trip to the latter than the former.

All my opinion.

Chicago got it's name 'the windy city' for a good reason, given the choice of a cold, windy blah mid-west city or New Orleans with it's Cajun culture, the answer NOLA is a no brainer! IMHO
