Budget advice for 2 months in South East Asia

Hi,

I'm planning on visiting Thailand, Laos and Cambodia from July to September 2013.

Could you advise me on a relatively comfortable budget (excluding flights, travel insurance etc)?

I'm travelling with a partner so accommodation costs can be shared. The rough plan is 2 weeks in Southern Thailand (not expensive resorts like Koh Sumui or Phuket), a week in northern Thailand, 2 weeks in Laos and 2 weeks in Cambodia.

Staying in budget air conditioned rooms (possibly fan rooms once we get used to the temperature)
Travelling overland only
Eating mainly cheap street food with occasional restaurant meals.
2- 3 beers a night with a 1 or 2 parties a week.
Possibly a trek or 2 but these seem very expensive.

Is £1700 each enough to manage this? Or should we go for less time?

Thank you for the help.

Sorry, forgot to say, I know my plan doesn't add up to 2 months but I left a week and a few days free in case our plans change.

I would say that a budget of £1700 for two months each is adequate ..
But remember like most parts of the World alcohol is expensive , with the exception of Cambodia , which has the cheapest alcohol in Asia , but on that budget there is no reason why you can't eat in restaurants for all your meals ..
I spent nine months in South East Asia last year and spent around about on average about £600- £800 and that was staying in rooms that cost around about £10 per night and i more or less ate all my meals in Restaurants and generally had a few beers every night plus a pack or so of smokes a day ..
Your budget is good , just as long as you don't sign up for any tours ..

Ohhhhh riibble you were going to be my hero!

Michael one tip is try and get air cond much better.

As rib says plenty of restaurants that are cheap enough that won't break the budget.

You will find it cheaper up north and if you do a bit of research you might come up with a reasonable price for a trek but don't book one until you get there.Capt bob on here has great info on chiang Mai.

Cheers
