Travel advice for May/June 2013 Egypt trip? Is it safe?

I was set on booking a 9 day tour holiday to Egypt for May-June this summer, but after the protests and hostility of the past few days due to the anniversary of the Egyptian revolution I now have doubts.

I realise the hostility is not aimed at tourists and I would probably not even be aware of any unrest whilst there, but I cannot help but worry as I was literally about to book the holiday when I heard the news reports.

Is it likely that these riots will still be an issue in several months time? Are there any other likely dates where riots could occur? Is anyone else planning to travel to Egypt soon? Past experiences?
General advice please!

I am traveling with a male companion, although we will be part of the tour group, and will be going from Cairo south, then back to Cairo - we won't be going North or to Sinai and are spending no longer than 24 hours at a time in Cairo itself.

Thanks in advance :-)

I would like to add I am familiar with foreign travel, having been backpacking to India, Nepal and Thailand in the past 12 months.

None of us know what the situation will be in May / June. However for what it's worth, I would go. I've been to Egypt 5 times in the last 3 years and I'm going again in March. Admittedly none of these trips have been to Cairo, but it wouldn't put me off at all. And you will have the added security of being with a tour group so they will re-route you if they think they need to. It's an incredible country with wonderful people and they need us to go there right now.

I am a repeat visitor to egypt, my last stay in cairo was on december 2012 and never had a safety problem even with the demonstrations near my hotel. On the other hand nobody can predict the security situation on may-june 2013 because the country is still polotically unstable. In case you decide to go (personally i would go) you may have some disturbs on visiting cairo attreactions, for example the egyptian museum is next to the tahrir square where the demonstrations take place. Sorry that my last word is that noone can currently give you a 100% safe advice about situation after 4 months.

past experience: been there last week of 2012 and first week of 2013. Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Bawiti, Siwa -- I felt perfectly safe.

Thanks guys - I understand why nobody knows what it will be like, I just hoped someone might be able to point my expectations in the right direction :-)
I've done some research now and haven't come across any bad experiences of visitors to Egypt, in fact everyone who's been in the past few years seems to recommend it due to the lack of crowds and cheaper prices!

I guess the media are good at hyping things up - so long as tourists don't join in the riots we'd be just as safe as in any foreign city.
I've gone ahead and booked it for early May and am looking forward to it.
Cheers!

who knows how things will be in May or June, but its very unlikely that you would be in any situations of danger.
