Cuba is a very diverse and large country. You can hike up a wild mountain and go SCUBA diving or you can go to the opera and visit museums. You can stay in an all inclusive resort where the only Cubans you will meet are those waiting on you or you can live with a Cuban family. You can have an English speaking guide carry you around and show you the traditional historic landmarks or you can explore the culture in a small town where almost no one speaks English.

Let me suggest you decide what sort of experience you are looking for then peruse a guide book. Almost everyone here is happy to address your semi-specific questions once you have some idea.

Staying "near Guardalavaca" means where exactly? Virtually only all inclusive resorts in that specific locale.
Ditto - perhaps read a guidbook and then come back to us.

depends how much time you have, and where you are staying.
From Guardalavaca to Banes, very pretty road, about 30km's. Aboriginal native cemetery & eplica villiage on the way, museum in Banes.

Visit Cayo Saetia, a national park on an island, you need a car, much better than the expensive
catamaran day trip there.

Pinares de Mayari - mountains with coffe and nature stuff.

depends what you like eh. In Holguin, Benny More or Casa de la Trova for music, paladar Hector (calle Cuba y Miro) for the best grub, comes with a view

last games in Holguin for this year are Jan 29-31.

Season resumes in mid March with only the top 8 teams. the other 8
have an extended vacation, Holguin included.

Right you are about the baseball - I forgot they were doing it this way now; and I guess I should have looked at the standings

I highly recommend the small town of Trinidad not far from Cienfuegos in the middle of Cuba on the coast in the province Sancti Spiritus.

The art galleries are amazing. The music is great at a place called Casa de la Trova as well as the Casa de la Musica. There is a really neat pottery studio too.
The streets are cobble stone.
It depends what kind of holiday/experience you are looking for. I have done the all inclusive deal with day trips and then I have stayed in a Casa Particulars too.
It is a beautiful country with such a rich culture and FANTASTIC arts scene...
