Trekking in IranDoes anyone have experience of mountain trekking in Iran. I'm thinking particulary north-wesstern part of the country.
We're a couple, both 60 yo, fairly experienced - have trekked in Himalaya and the Andes, altitudes upto 5500m, but no climbing, nothing technical.
We'd be looking for opportunites of doing a trek 10 days upto 2 weeks, combing our stay in the country with two weeks sightseeing.
What are your recommendations?

Last summer I was trekking in Northern Iran. I posted on this forum but my post is not yet back online since the return of this forum.
I can recommand to trek with www.caspiantrek.com . It is run by Farzin, a very good, nice guide with a lot of knowledge about the area and very enthousiastic about all the authentic culture and nature in the mountains.
There is a post from someone else on a other forum which you can read:
here are some pictures I made :
Nature Northern Iran June 2012
I know Farzin can arrange a lot of different kind of trekkings, daytrips, multi day, easy or challenging, high or lower altitude, etc.
I thought the area was very beautiful, the food was so pure and tasteful ( typically northern Iran food as well! ). Really, I can only say positive things, I hope I will go there again this year!
If you have any questions about my experience, let me know!

4I am returning in a couple weeks to trek in the Caspian Mountains and will stay with Farzin Malaki and his family. They host trekkers and folks who enjoy staying in a traditional village setting. Here is their web site. http://www.caspiantrek.com/
Here you will find descriptions of the treks and see photos of the countryside. I can tell you that you will not find better food in all of Iran. They use locally grown produce and specialize in Northern Iranian cuisine. Since they are a family business, they are able to tailor an adventure to suite you exact needs and wishes. Farzin is a hiker/climber/biker/skier, grew up in the area, and knows the mountains like the back of his hand. You can’t go wrong here!!
