Visa on arrival or at Ouagadou, Burkina Faso available?
Dear FriendsI am planing to start this year's Africa trip in Cote d'Ivoire and just called the embassy in my country. I am Swiss and she said that it is best to get the visa via their embassy which is both - hilarous expensive and time consuming (Euro 110 for the visa and going in person to the embassy adds up another Euro 100). She wasn't exact on whether visa on arrival is available but said some people (not depending on the nationalities) were refused a visa and had to fly back. Best for me would be a visa on arrival logically...
On the other hand I could go back to Burkina Faso and apply from there (take the train later to Abidjan) if I could get a visa in Ouagadougou.
What is your advise?
The border with Liberia is open, what I read out of the posts. If there is anything new or a favorite land border please let me know.
Kind regards,
Hemis

You could get the VTE in Ouaga which will cover you for CI. I'd fly into Ouaga & go down to CI either on the bus or by train (apparently great journey but 2nd class is incredibly hot, get a 1st class seat!).If you get the bus, please don't do what I did http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1856261 .. but get the overnight from Ouaga to change at Bobo .. sleep in Bobo & pick up the bus from there direct to Bouake (should arrive early afternoon & you can continue onto Abidjan the same day if you want)
Friends crossed with their truck with about 12 tourists on board from the Guinean border about 4 days ago near Man (Liberian border) & had an incredible time & commented that they felt welcomed, safe & saw the massive UN compound there! Continued onto Odienne then Kohorgo & now in Yakro ... a lot of checkpoints but nothing worrying at all; we're in touch daily at the moment as they're helping me out by carrying goods down.
Have fun ... things are changing!

Cost-wise it looks like Cote d'Ivoire is expensive for everybody ! Got my visa in Nouakchott 3 weeks ago and it was 100 euros cash ( and no receipt...). 3 months, multiple entry and valid from the date I requested if that's any consolation...
