Transit Time - Heathrow to Gatwick?A friend is flying to Heathrow and then transiting to Gatwick for another flight (not booked on the same ticket) to Malaga, Spain. Flight into Heathrow lands at 11am (on a Sunday), and flight to Malaga from Gatwick (not booked yet) departs at 3.35pm the same day. Is that enough time to get between the two?

3Heathrow is the slowest airport for passport checks and baggage. Definitely minimum 45mins, could be up to 2hrs though. Public transport would be about 1h 45, you have to travel into London to go down to Gatwick - see http://tfl.gov.uk. Taxi heathrow - gatwick is 42 miles, so say 1hr and about £80 unless it's pre-booked from a non-heathrow car service (massive rip-off for taxis at heathrow airport, sorry). Either way, allow an hour and a half Gatwick check-in. So it's do-able with taxi as an option if there are delays coming through Heathrow. If the flight is delayed however then there's no hope and the booking fee will be lost.

4There are frequent direct buses between Gatwick and Heathrow - you don't have to go into London. Takes about an hour (off peak) from T5, add 15-20 minutes for the central bus station.
If the plane leave Gatwick North then you can shave another 5-10 minutes off those times
It's doable if nothing goes wrong - a later plane would be better though

5IMHO I wouldn't! But that's partly because I have missed flights due to unforeseen accidents/roadworks/delays... For peace of mind I'd go for a later flight because it's not guaranteed that all will go according to plan.
If the first plane is delayed before take off, can you imagine how anxious you'd be feeling for the entire flight knowing that you're probably going to miss the next one?

6BTW, I'm looking at Gatwick airport's website and I don't see a flight to Malaga at 15:35 on a Sunday. However, I do see an Easyjet flight at 18:00, which is nice and comfy to make.

10i landed at LHR at 7:30am, and could have been out in under 45 minutes--except that my travelling partner and i lost each other in baggage. that was the fastest i've done it, but it was early morning.
so check in online, no checked baggage, could be done. i would do it--but then danger is my middle name.
