Iceland flights in winter
Hi all, some years ago I visited Iceland in summer and was fascinated of the fantastic landscape. As a photographer I would like to visit Iceland in winter again.
Now I'm interested in following:
- which month is recommended with enough daylight
- which car type is your recommendation (think 4WD-jeep)
- is there a compagny to get for a cheap price from Germany to Iceland, can be last minute
My favourite places are Jökulsarlon with ice formations and Vik.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Best regards
Paul

Mid-Feb to late March is probably the best time for visiting winter Iceland because of reasonable day-length.An ordinary 2wd will suffice for your plans, preferable of some weight. 4wd won't make winter driving easier/safer.
Following recent reorganisations, wow.is is now the low cost airline for Iceland with all year flights to Germany. But Icelandair can also be competitive so check both.

Hi :-)thanks for you very fast feedback - very good. Check wow.is and realized that there are no flights from Stuttgart at this time - but from Berlin it's absolut no problem and the prices are a dream.
I'v forgotten to ask for polar lights - is it a good time in February or March.
Thanks very much
Paul

You still have plenty of darkness for the lights, but try to avoid the time around the full moon, and urban lights. At the end it is down to luck: you need clear skies and the luck of sufficient solar activity. On average March is one of the most active months of the year.
