So our plans to go to South America were derailed, and instead we'd like a month in Accra, a month in Tangiers, and a month bumming around Spain, hitting Madrid and Barcelona and small towns along the way.
For anyone who's been to Accra and/or Tangiers--does a month seem like too long to be there? I don't expect we'll have lots to do every day--we're kind of going to relax/write a bit, but we don't want to be bored after the first couple of weeks.
I'm also looking for recommendations for relatively easy/cheap day trips out of Accra and Tangiers.
Lastly, looking for backup guesthousing in Accra. Right now, I have a place lined up for $300 a month, but I do want something in case that falls through, as everything I am seeing online is so expensive.
Thanks so much in advance.

Tangiers for a month would bore me silly, you should plan to do trips in the surrounding region, $300 for a month is probably cutting it very fine!Accra for $300 a month will not happen!!!!!!! Just for accommodation, let alone any side trips, I feel you need to re-think your budget
Let us know when you revise your budget!

Maybe I was being unclear. The $300 is just for accommodation in Accra per month. I've already found a guestroom for that amount and confirmed with the owner; I just want a backup in case anything happens we're not stuck staying at an $80/night hotel until we find another place.Any side trips are not part of that $300 budget.
Thanks for the note about Tangiers; I'll probably make it 2 weeks.

I'm with Kira: a month in either would drive me right around the bend. Tangier represents (for me) some of the worst of Morocco, which is overall an incredible place. A month of exploring will give you a good sense. Staying put in Tangier, or even just in the north, is a waste of time unless you've got a very solid purpose for being there: academic studies in place, language studies, something like that.Same with Accra: it's a big, crowded city without many major attractions of any sort. Even if you like big, loud, polluted cities you owe it to yourself to get out and explore the country. A month is enough time to cruise around Ghana or to take in some of the neighboring countries. This assumes you're not there to study at the university or make inroads into the newly-flush international banking community.
And: $300 a month doesn't get you much in Accra. Be prepared for disappointment (although I hope it works out for you).
If I was planning to "relax and write a bit," I could name a dozen places in either country I'd rather go. The fact that most would probably agree with me doesn't mean I'm right, exactly, but it sure is suggestive.
Hope that's helpful.
Mark
