you don't need the roadworthy to sell the car in NSW.

if you sell it for scrap you will get about $300 for it.

If you drive through the center of Australia in a $2000 car expect to break down it is HOOOOTTTTTTT - so consider how you are going to get help 300km from anything and what that will cost.

Sealed roads go to all the main tourist attractions so you don't NEED to go off road. it is one of the fun things to do in Austalia though, but it is unwise without a 4WD.

If you are looking for campervan hire in Darwin , have you looked at www.ecampervanhire.com? They list every campervan hire company in Australia. They'll list specifically every camper company in Darwin in fact here is the link to Darwin for you... http://www.ecampervanhire.com/reviewcategories/darwin/

I can absolutely not recommend Travelers Autobarn - we bought a car from them in Darwin and had only very bad experiences. The car was absolutely not well maintained and the odometer was tempered with and we needed to see a repair shop for 3 times within the first few days. The mechanics actually told us that the car was not safe for driving. There was only one guy in the office who understands anything about the cars all others are backpackers they hire for minimum wage. One chap told me straight away he has no idea about cars whatsoever... scary.

Also the complaint management was very bad - they admitted their error but refused to do a refund in cash (I think is their strategy just to refuse all refunds).

Also talked to a few fellow travelers on the way who rented with them who had problems with them. If you want a relaxed holiday, then go with somebody else.
