Buenos Aires to Iguazu - one week, where else to go?
HolaSo I'm going to spend two weeks in BA at the start of January learning spanish and seeing the sights in BA. I then want to go to Iguazu - I understand that I only really need a couple of nights to do this, and the next main stop is Ushuaia. However, flights from Iguazu to Ushuaia are are coming up at £350, so it will work out cheaper to bus it back to BA and then fly from there. Rather than go straight back to BA, as I have about 5 days to play with I thought I could break up the journey and see some other places. Other than Rosario (views on whether it's worth a stop would be great please) I'm struggling with where else I should stop, any suggestions please?
Thanks

I asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago and didn't get any replies, but since then I've done a bit more in depth research. It seems like Gualeguaychú would be a fun place to be if you can get there on a weekend; they host arguably the biggest carnaval in Argentina each weekend throughout January.
Aside from that I've seen a lot of good things about the Esteros del Ibera wetlands (which you can access from a town called Mercedes). I will be going here in late January, travelling in the opposite direction to you.
Further north I am considering visiting Resistencia/Corrientes (two cities on either side of the Parana river), and then continuing eastwards to Posadas. This area contains various ruins of old Jesuit missionaries which sound like a pretty interesting pre-colonial experiment.
Obviously I can't vouch for how enjoyable any of these places are because I've not been yet, but hopefully you find this information useful in some way.

I bought the LP guide to Argentina originally, and then searched the forums here for the names of the places that interested me.It seems to me that this area doesn't get as much attention as some others from posters on the forum; it's really a question of piecing together the various pieces of relevant information that you do find to form your own impression.
I'm not sure where you are in the world but I have found that British newspapers have had lots of interesting articles on South America recently, including this one on Misiones Province: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/south-american-land-wars-lot-8-and-the-mission-to-protect-paradise-8215526.html
About half way down this page there is a search box which takes you to a list of archived articles relevant to your search term from the last ten years or so of The Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel
If you take a look at these sources you'll find other links within them that can lead your research. Do let me know what you think!
