Vietnam in Tet

My boyfriend and I are travelling to Vietnam for 3 weeks in February. We will be in Ho Chi Minh during the Tet celebrations and I was wondering if people had any advice on:
a) If any tours are available eg Mekong Delta
b) What is good to see during tet

Also wondering if people had any good sights in Hoi An, Hue or Hanoi. I've got all the tourist books but was wondering if anyone knew of some real adventure, non-touristy things?

Thanks :)

Im so excited for this holiday since it's near to come lol. This is my first Chrimas time in Vietnam. Hanoi is quite cold but not much. If it doesnt rain then i like it. Some people tell me about Tet holiday, they say well about this and there will be many interesting activities at that time. I plan to travel aroud the North but in Tet holliday i may go to the South. About your queestion of Mekong Delta tour i think i will find it since i also have a plan about traveling in the South at that time. Please keep posting here if any agent is good. and which tour. Thanks :)

Less touristy trip from Ha Noi:
catch the #47 bus from Long Bien station to Bat Trang (aka the ceramic village).
The ride is very interesting along a levee for much of the way.

Hoi An - Explore rice fields and back roads

Hue - Hire a moto and head out along the Perfume River around the tombs

Hanoi - Explore the island under Long Bien Bridge, wander the local markets off the alleys on An Duong. There are a lot of little gems in Hanoi.

non touristy in Hue and Hoi An you should visit along Hochiminh trail with minority village, forest and homestay. Surely it will be great experience. However, you should ask a travel agent to make tour for you because homestay in minority village along Hochiminh trail need to have permission of local authority. You can make motorbike or car trip with a guide.

In Hue you can combine classic tour to royal tomb and make a cycling around peaceful villages.

Nice time

Tet will be very boring in 2 big cities: Ha Noi and Sai Gon. People go back to their hometown or travel somewhere.
This year, we Vietnamese got 9-day vacation, people tend to travel a lot. Then if you want to get some tours outside the 2 big cities, you must make reservation right now.
Or you can walk along the street ò Sai Gon on 10 Feb (1st day of the year) to enjoy the rarely calm of it.
