I wish Taca was still flying between Canada and Havana.

Arrived in Havana in the morning, out of the airport by 11:00am.....

Leaving Cuba, 7 or 8:00pm flight, depending on the season. Got most of the first day in and the last day. Loved it.

Maybe just lucky, but I've never had a bad flight with Taca either and I've flown them and Copa a LOT in the past several years...

Cheers,
Terry

Canada extended its hand in friendship and solidarity and built and donated the new airport in Havana - when was that ?

lol.... that airport was not free. I recall 11-12 million and the airport tax, when you leave Cuba, was to repay the cost of building the airport terminal. It has been repaid, in full.

Oh - was he talking about terminal 3 ? As you say, that was paid by the airport tax !

Terminal 3 was officially inaugurated in April 26, 1998 by Canada's Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and Cuba Fidel Castro and a plaque was mounted into the wall during the ceremony to the generosity of Canada in building the airport. During the cold war Canada under Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau wanted to stick it to the States and helped Cuba build the new airport. At the grand opening only Canada was present at the ceremony. Sorry I deleted the link to the story. Next time I am passing thru I will take a picture of the plaque.

If you mean this plaque - http://jameslewisrn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/208.jpg - it doesn't say anything about generosity.

It may have been Canadian contractors, and it was certainly financed by Canadian banks, but it wasn't free.

I believe that Trudeau or the cold war had anything to do with terminal 3.
