A nice place to be on Bangkok, New Year's Eve?
Hello, my friends,I will be with family in Bangkok on New Year's Eve. I heard there is a very nice firework spetacle on the Riverside and am thinking about booking a hotel there. Some of them are already booked or deeply expensive. Any advices on where to go on a $300-500 budget for five people? I would not need fancy dinners or dancing, we are more on seeing the feast and enjoy the beauty. Thanks

Quote - Be aware that many hotels have a compulsory dinner payment for NYE.High end hotels in Bangkok don't.
My suggestion would be the Pullman on Silom road. Make sure you ask for a river facing view or you wont see anything. (This applies to all hotels obviously).
Otherwise you are all welcome to watch the splendour from my penthouse apartment in Silom. I shall be serving canapes and the finest Thai champagne (Singha). A bargain at only 1000 baht a head.

There seem to be fireworks at least twice a week at the moment. Had spectacular displays For Loy Kratong, the weekend before, the weekend just gone, the King's birthday etc, however they were often in different places on the river. Some were down near the Shangri La, others further up round by the Sheraton and then others further up past Wat Arun. Depending on where your hotel is will dictate how much you can see. Thats why I recommended the Pullman. Its further back from the river so you have a more panoramic view for larger stretches of river.Edited by: ethelfleda
