Ecuador suggestions
Hi, we're arriving next january the 3rd in Guayaquil and will remain in Ecudor for 25 days....- wich is the best place to visit Amazonia (a couple of nights)
- Cuyabeno reserve is accessible in january? I've read there's some problem with the level of water...
- We would like to visit San Rafael falls, is it possible to do it with a 1-day escursion from Baeza or from Quito??
- we are planning to spend 8-9 days in the galĂ pagos, is it possible to visit some of the island on our own??
thank you
Federico

I just got back from a visit to Guacamayo lodge in Cuyabeno, it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I higly recommend this lodge. You need to stay at least 3 nights in the jungle, but I recommend 5 days/4 nights because the first and last day are spent largely traveling to and from the lodge. As far as flooding in the rainier seasons, you don't have to worry as the lodges are built on raised platforms with raised walkways between them. Boat navigation may actually be easier in the rainier months, but you may not be able to hike as much as in the drier seasons, because much of the trails may be submerged.....but don't worry because either way you will see an amazing array of wildlife and have a great experience. Guacamayo also has a birdwatching tower. I spent many mornings on the tower and saw something new every day.2
The bus from Baeza to Cascada San Rafael takes about 1.5 hours. So you can easily visit the waterfall on your own on a daytrip from Baeza. From Cascada San Rafael to Quito the bus takes 5h. If you are planning to continue to Lago Agrio and Cuyabeno a good option would be to stay the night at HosterĂa Reventador, a few km up the road from the waterfall. Another option is to leave your luggage at the hosteria for a couple of hours while you visit the waterfall and then continue with the next bus.I have got some photos and info about my visit to Cascada San Rafael here: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/3fbdb/183790/
