Jersey City or Williamsburg?
Hey guys, I need help. I am currently on exchange in Mexico for a term (ending soon), and will be heading to New York for 9 days during Christmas period. I will be arriving into Newark Airport with my luggage with a "term-ful" of luggage. I have found two accommodations on airbnb, respectively in Jersey City and Williamsburg.I would just like to know whether it would be more convenient for me to just select the Jersey City accommodation since it is nearer to Newark Airport + my luggage would be quite heavy. I will also be heading back home 9 days later through Newark Airport in the afternoon.
Both accommodations cost the same, and of course my intention of coming to New York is to check out Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
Thank you!

Williamsburg is a pretty hoity toity (high class) area so I'm surprised you could find accommodation that that costs as little as Jersey City does. I don't know much about Jersey city but W'burg has easy access to everything. If you want to see stuff in Manhattan you should shlep you luggage around and stay in Manhattan.
As with most of Manhattan, there is a substantial "canyon effect" breeze so january can be a little chilly.

If price is equal I guess I'd go with Williamsburg. In 9 days figure you'll make 10-20 trips back to your lodging, so its convenience matter a lot more than the length of one luggage-laden round trip, which in any event will probably involve as much walking/luggage schlepping for JC as for W.But either would work. Jersey City is quite convenient to downtown as well, via the PATH or the Hoboken Ferry, and convenient to EWR via NJ Transit and/or PATH. The northeast corner of Jersey City, near more hopping Hoboken, is where several of the hotels are -- and re-reading, is where I've seen an airbnb listing too -- and is pretty upscale. One of the two PATH tubes was shut down by Hurricane Sandy flooding, so check status before using, but the more used tube (into Midtown) is up.

Williamsburg is one of NYC's hotspots for food, drink, and urban culture. I've never heard Jersey City described that way. Hence, if you think you'll want to be able to hang out in the place you are staying - think coming back from a busy day in Manhattan and then wanting to go somewhere but not hop on the subway again - then I would choose Williamsburg hands-down. Personally, I wouldn't want to have to hop on the PATH train or head to Hoboken every time I wanted to grab a beer (especially in winter.) However, truthfully, I've never been to Jersey City so perhaps there will be cool things in and around the Air B'n'B stay. Good luck!6
If you're going with the intention to see NY, stay in Williamsburg. It's a fun area and the L train makes for super easy connections to Manhattan.10
Thanks for all the feedback guys! It looks like most of you are for Williamsburg.p/s: I am a solo traveller, and am not really into parties and drinking when I am in NY. Just to visit attractions in the day and probably up to 10pm.
