places to see in the south of ireland

Hi Just spending two weeks in Ireland having a great time; started out in Dublin and went to the North-West to Sligo. Staying in a lovely seaside village called Strandhill – stayed three nights in the Strandhill Lodge and Suites; the best hotel ive stayed in.... fabulous place great rooms... went surfing a few times the last couple of days and also tried the Seaweed baths – really relaxing break a couple of great restaurants in the village especially if you are a foodie! Heading to Galway next and wondering if anyone had any tips for heading south?

Hello John!

Welcome to the Thorn Tree! :)
What exactly would you like to see: architecture, landscape...etc.?
As for me, I prefer nature and architecture... Have you ever visited castle hotels??
Irish Ashford Castle is the best one!
Look http://www.ashford.ie/
One more castle hotel is in the south - Waterford Castle

Seem to be following you?
You (or at least I)could take a week to get from Sligo to Galway or just rush down the N17 with perhaps a slight detour to Knock shrine.

Taking the Scenic route along the coast you have the Ciede Fields, Achill island down to Westport and along Clew Bay under Croagh Patrick and to Louisburgh before heading down through the Doonlough valley and Killary Fjord to Leenane, From here you can head via Cong or take the better N59 route to Kylemore and onwards.

I notice on another forum that you are being advised to take the ferry over the Shannon, Dont. not this time of year anyway, unless you are aiming to explore south west Clare and the Loop Head peninsula take the Tunnel avoiding Limerick. That is of course if you are planning to go that far? Some insight into your itinerary might help people with some knowledge offer localised advice rather than just the "go to Dingle" gabble.
