Mosquitonet in Cuba?
We will be travelling in Cuba (Habana, Viñales and Trinidad) in Dec/Jan. I have read some of the questions/answers on mostquitos and will definitely bring repellants, but what I cannot find any info on is if it would be any help for us to bring mosquitonets? Have the casas normally got hooks in the roof to hang a mosquitonet on?1
We haven't seen too many hooks in the ceiling.Maybe you could bring one or two and ask to have it screwed in.As for mosquitos, after a dozen trips we've only used a natural repellent once or twice.The 'heavy artillery' aka Muskol is still sealed-lol. If the mosquitos are bad, the authorities will spray . Which begs the question, personal spray or unknown chemical , which is worst?The long time/full time Cubaphiles will be able to advise you better when they get home from work or Cuba.

Although Cuba has good malaria control, dengue is an issue. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent!3
It is highly unlikely that you will need mosquito nets - i assume you are staying in casas with airconditioned rooms....as #1 and #2 say, and as you have indicated, repellent is the go. And of course you are aware that aedes egypti is around during the day, not only at night. Just be careful, don't be paranoid :-)5
I echo previous posters who think it unnecessary. I did bring a mosquito net to Cuba once, like 8 years ago and it was a waste of space. I have slept in Cubans' homes and was not bothered by mosquitoes. Many Cubans also sleep with the fans running, which works at keeping bugs away.Also, I did notice that casas DID NOT have a hook on the ceiling for the net. My tia did tell me that the nets would be useful for people with infants, so I left them with her to find new parents who could use them.

Personally, I have never had a problem with mosquitos in Cuba.However, if you are planning to spend time on the beach going into dusk/evening - then what I call no-see-ums can become a issue - that frankly is a more "earnest" search/discussion.
I have not had a problem during the sunlight hours, but twilight-leading-to-sunset - those little frackers can mess up a Holiday.
Twilight leading thru a beautiful Cuba sunset on the beach with friends - or strolling down the beach at twilight - can lead to a beasty/uncomfortable red bites, often mild fever and some nausea the following day.
My personal rule - fresh hiking/outdoor quality DEET has to be used BEFORE twilight/sunset or you can pay a price - not life threatneing but not pleasant.

Just a question coz I have yet to go to Cuba- is there much malaria there?10
oh man i was on the beach with some family during sun down, i've never gotten so many mosquito bites - ugly looking ones i might add - luckily i was not sick but they were noticeable for at least a month.i recommend the mosquito repellent wristlets - especially during sleep - lets put it like this , you sleep with it , no bites - u don't sleep with it, i hope you have an AC on, these are really effective - you can find them on ebay - they have the cheapy fabric ones from china they're good but are poor quality won't last more then 48hours , the rubber ones can last 3 days, if you don't need it put it in the plastic case it came in.
