Hire a taxi to Donsak pier. Ferries take one hour and leave every hour.

Not sure. We took a minivan the other way once and it was 1500 if I remember correctly. Is over an hour away.

No need to prebook any ferry.

Taxi Surat Thani to Donsak pier cost THB 1000 in September.
I wouldn't recommend, neither would any local on Koh Phangan, to take a taxi in the other direction i.e Donsak to Surat Thani as the taxi mafia has an extremely tight grip at the port in Donsak. Book your return on the island.

I don't see why the price would be any different. If anything, I would imagine you can get it cheaper as THB 1000 was without haggling.
Yes, it's quicker than the bus.

Also, does anyone know how to get to Koh Lanta from Surat Thani and how long does it take?

Thanks in advance.

Where in Surat Thani? From Donsak, if it was me I would hire a car to Krabi and take the ferry from there. Will take approx 2.5 hours plus ferry time and waiting for ferry time.
If from Surat town then I would either hire a car or take the train to Trang and a taxi from there directly to the island.

I'm sure there will be buses direct to Krabi town though if taxis are not your thing and people with more knowledge on this will no doubt be along shortly.

Yes you can get transport from Koh Samui to Krabi. An all day trip though. Go into the Government bus booking office in Nathon and book there.

You'd have to take a train then a bus. Looks like there are only 2 trains going through ST to Trang. One at 4.27am and the other at 6.28am though they'll most likely be late like most Thai trains.
