iPads, WiFi, Photo Back-ups and Colombia

iPads, WiFi, Photo Back-ups and Colombia
I have 9 weeks in Colombia starting mid January and am toying with taking an iPad with me. The 2 main reasons for taking one are so that I can book hostels a few days in advance with it while connected to a cafe/ restaurants / hostel's WiFi, and also use it to back up my camera's memory card (and therefore have copies posted to iCloud should the camera or iPad be stolen). I would leave my Kindle behind and use the iPad for reading books, writing emails, writing my journal, reading the Lonely Planet etc.My questions are :
- Can anyone tell me how widely used WiFi is in Colombia? Is it offered by many cafes, restaurants and hostels?
- Am I more or less begging to be robbed by taking this gadget along with me? (clearly I'll use common sense and not advertise it just like I won't be walking along with my camera around my neck)
- Does anyone have any good suggestions for making back-ups of memory cards?

Ditto what #1 said. Wifi is pretty common in the cities and most malls, coffee shops and hostels have it. Also, a little discretion with your electronics can pretty much ensure that you will have no problem. The term "out of sight out of mind" definitely applies. With that being said, you don't need to be overly cautious. In places like Lleras Park in Medellin and Zona-T in Bogota, there are plenty of Colombians and Gringos typing and chatting away on their fancy electronic products. Just keep them hidden when you are on the streets, in taxis and while using public transportation. Other than that, have a good time in Colombia!
