Warning of Theft in Uyuni

Theft Alert to travelers in Salar Uyuni.
Laptop stolen from locked storage at Hotel Julia in Uyuni.
Most travelers will want to stash their big packs and valuables before setting out across
the salt desert. You have to trust the hostel or tour agency. Hotel Julia appears to be a
decent place, but security is lax and they took no responsibility for the loss, even though
it appeared to be an inside job. You can imagine the police report rigamarole. No recovery.

1st post....very reliable review. I know, it's a though market over there, you have to try to cut throats while you can.

Do travelers really leave their valuables in lock-ups in crappy hotels whilst they ´do´ the Salar. ?

Never knew that.

What an incredibly reckless thing to do.

But still - - - live and learn, as they say.

Leave your laptop at home.

Was the bag locked as well or just the storage room? Not much point leaving an unlocked bag (esp with valuables) in a storage room, asking for things to go "missing".... Same goes if you go out for the day and leave stuff in your room / dorm, best to assume you cannot trust any agency or hotel / hostel

#2 You'd be surprised.....!

#1 yes, it's interesting isn't it how it's his first post.
He didn't even have the sense to ask any questions before leaving for his holiday - thought he knew it all.

Is very sad to know this information, because when I have to work in Uyuni I stay in that hotel. I will be careful, thanks for the information.
