Airport Transfers in Argentina

Hi,

We are traveling around Argentina in December, hitting a number of destinations.

I'm curious if anyone knows if it's cheeper to prearrange airport transfers or to take our chances when we land? Or, if anyone knows aprox how much transfer in their experience have costed?

A number of our accomodations offer transfer services for a fee - hate finding out I've paid too much for something!

Thanks!
D

It depends. At El Calafate and Ushuaia, airports are quite close to most hotels

In Mendoza, they have remises (grey taxis) that have a fixed posted price for each part of the city you are going to, on the far left of the terminal lobby after exiting the flight. I think it is about 45 pesos to the microcentro now.

I just flew into AEP from BRC a few days ago and would recommend you pre-book a taxi before you land. The airport is a mess when multiple flights land at once and it could take you a while to find a taxi. Even if you use a taxi service after you get your luggage you may end up waiting up to an hour for a driver to show up. If you have a taxi pre-booked it will save you a lot of time and get you out quicker. It might cost a bit more but might be worth it.

The taxi service we used when we landed cost 88 pesos to go from AEP to the center. By comparison a regular taxi cost us 73 pesos to go from San Telmo to AEP.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Also, are taxis generally negotiable? should we be negotiating the price of the fair before we get into the cab?

Thanks again,
Dan

Not usually negotiable. Some taxis, such as some offical ones, have posted tariffs to different destinations.. If you do not use these taxis , then they are (or should be) metered. If they are metered, make sure they turn the mmeter on. Igf you agree a price, make sure the cabbie writes it down. Watch ofr the trick where they take a 100 peso bill from you, say they have no change, and then hand you back a forgery. Get into the cab with small bills, so you can pay the exact amount. Tipping is not usual.

For security reasons, I would not walk out to the street, especially at AEP or EZE, and get in any cab. Use the cabs or tranfers services with booths at the airports.
