I'm new to this website and I'm hoping I might get some advice from some more experienced travelers! :)
I'm going to Jamaica for my honeymoon in mid-October of next year. I got a great deal on the resort but I'm not as sure what to do about booking a flight.
I realize that nobody can predict for sure if flight prices will rise or fall but I guess I'm just seeing if there is anyone out there who maybe has traveled to Montego Bay (especially from the midwest or Minneapolis specifically) who can share their experiences.
Our honeymoon is in mid-October (low season, I'm told). The rates for our travel dates have just become available and the lowest I'm seeing is $567 on American Airlines. I'm tempted to just book right away now to get our pick of departure/return times. Anybody think that it might be a better idea to wait?
Again, I know this isn't an exact science, but as a very inexperienced traveler, I thought it might not hurt to throw the question out there to see what people have done in the past.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

1That is a really good rate for Jamaica.
My suggestion is to buy the ticket, and then buy trip insurance just in case something comes up and you cannot go.
I have travelled to many countries, and I always buy my plane tickets months in advance, and then buy the trip insurance.
Another thing about trip insurance. I recommend not only buying it to cover your plane ticket, but you should also buy the full medical coverage, and trip interruption coverage. Most Americans I know DO NOT do this, not knowing that their own medical insurance is most times no good in a foreign country.
People do get sick and have accidents in other countries.
I ALWAYS buy the travel insurance from a company call "Travel Guard". Just google them.

2I think $567 is a decent fare...not the cheapest but it could be much worse
I would suggest you take a look at
they are a no frills budget airline and offer service to Jamaica via florida
they let you see the fares for the whole month so you can see if prices go up or down
I have seen flights for about $350 Rountrip to Jamaica from your city
another thing booking so far in advance might not be the best option as special deals havent really come out.
For Travel in October of 2013 I would suggest you wait til Feb/March
ofcourse since its your Honeymoon you rather have security of having a seat reserved rather than saving money. I personally would wait a bit and see

4It's not a great fare, but not a terrible one either. If you can stand the gamble, I'd wait. You can set up fare watches on several booking sites and they'll email you when/if fairs drop.
I wouldn't worry about booking many months (almost a year!) in advance to ensure your choice of flights. They are unlikely to fill up until closer to travel time. Schedules may change in the next year anyway.

5I agree with the other posters here. I travel from Ohio to Montego Bay almost once a season (3x per year). The lowest airfare I've seen (this year) is $397, but $567 isn't horrible either. September/October is a low season for tourism in Jamaica, which may partly explain why you got a good rate on your hotel. So, waiting until closer to that time (July/August) to buy your plane tickets may be a good option. It really depends on how you are as a traveller/person, if you need to have everything planned and confirmed in advance or not.
The cost of the cancel for any reason insurance usually is not worth it if you know you will actually go on the trip and not be canceling it, because it only refunds you a percentage of what you paid for the ticket/hotel. "Normal" trip insurance is never a bad idea though. I'd say wait and set up some fare alerts on various websites.
