I doubt many of us have personally been to 10 beaches on the Aegean. Besides what I think is good in a "beach" and what you might consider good could be two wildly different things, no?

A beach is defined as "A pebbly or sandy shore, esp. by the sea between high- and low-water marks." The Mediterranean Coast has a lot of "beaches", however; most of them are NOT made of really tiny pebbles, commonly called sand. Many of the "beaches" all along the south coast are rock out croppings over or jutting into the water, a very few are sand and the others are composed of large pebbles. Perhaps you could define what you mean by a beach and what it is you are looking for in a beach or an area where a beach is to be found. All beaches have water, beyond that???

it' s very simple,
just tell me a beach that you have found it wonderful. It doesn' t matter if there is sandy or not, crowded or not ...
and you can find certaintly people that have visited more than 10 different beaches in a such beautiful country ...

I've lived in Turkey for 7 years total and have visited the following beaches along the aegean coast -

1. a couple of beaches on Gokceada. Small, quiet, a tad dull and impossible to get to without a car.
2. the landing beach where the Australians tried to take the Gelibolu peninsula. I don't think you are allowed to swim there.
3. Other places around the straights. You'd be mad to swim in some of them: jellyfish by evening and currents all day, plus most of the coast has a "sandy beach" of about 2 cm maximum.
4. Assos. No beach that I remember.
5. Edremit. A beach near the city, but not for swimming - too shallow and muddy.
6. Ayvalik - there's one tiny beach way out on the island's far side next to the offical campsite. It's good, but it's about the same size as an American suburban house.
7. Ayvalik - the other beach on the island, right next to the causeway bringing over the traffic.

If you do a google search, you will still get personal experiences -(people were actually the ones who created Google).

What you would find out quickly - and what people are sarcastically trying to tell you - is that the Aegean isn't a beach place. Read your ancient greek texts and you'll see they refer to harbours and moorings far more than dragging the boats up the sand. There are a few decent beaches on the Aegean but most of Turkey's good beaches are on the south coast.

I supposed that thorntree is made to help someone and not to attack him. I have never been in Turkey, but I think a coastline of over 1000 kms in Aegean sea would have enough nice beaches, in addition with the closed greek islands that they have many dozens beautiful beaches (I believe the morphology of the terrain will be similar).

Of course I did my research in Google, but here is a special topic for Turkey.

Now, if an experienced person like you (1968 topics!), suggest 6 moderate beaches in whole Aegean area, what can I say ... Probably Greeks knew better than you ...

Yes, there's no beach at Assos but the water off the rocks is nice and relatively safe to swim in. In addition, unlike here in Australia you don't have to worry about sharks.

Apologies. I had a really rotten day yesterday and the TT was a stupid place to take out my annoyance with other people.

Nevertheless, what I said is true. There are very few beaches along the Aegean coast because its geology has created headlands, pebbles, and steep cliffs.Those that do exist have been massively overdeveloped.

While the north aegean is not "sand spectacular" when it comes to beaches, there are some pretty good ones, and many more in the southern aegean / mediterranean as shown in the google link someone posted.

The best beaches to my mind are uncrowded, which tends to mean more remote,and preferably with a beautiful view, and pleasant swimming in clean water. Ideally a small restaurant or cafe somewhere nearby, and well for me thats just about perfect.

In the north the small pebble beach at Assos meets these criteria perfectly. Stunning views.

The beach on the far side of the island of Cunda, near Ayvalik, is pretty good too.

There are some great beaches near Cesme, including Ilica as mentioned in the google link, but can be windy and busy especially at weekends when half of izmir arrives

I would avoid Kusadasi although there are some lovely beaches in the national park to the south with great views of Samos, car needed to get there

Further south the best beaches (coves really) in the Bodrum peninsula are monopolised by beach clubs

However the Datca and Bozburun peninulas have many delightful coves which meet my criteria, again a car is required to reach them.

The beaches of dalyan, Patara and Olu Deniz are all spectacular large sandy or pebbly beaches, but tend to get busy, olu deniz especially. The beaches at butterfly valley, Faralya, Olympus and Phasalis are smaller and more personal, though again you are unlikely to be alone. But now we are getting into the mediterranean rather than the aegean.
