Accomodation Koh Phangan
Hi allI plan to go to the full moon party in dec 2012 - don't laugh, want to experience the last few months of my twenties as a typical tourist (the rest of Thailand will be authentic).
I have read through the posts about FMP and haven't found anything useful about accommodations/ where to stay. I would like to stay at a nice place (no cockroaches!) that's walking distance to the party. Don't think I want to stay 5-7 nights though. Any recommendations?
Thanks!

You'll probably have to pay quite a bit now for local hotels/hostels and they'll insist on 3-4 night minimum, assuming they have any rooms left. Will be my first time too, I managed to book online for 1 night, a little further out than I would have liked will have to take a taxi to and from the party, small compromise for only wanting a short stay.

Check on Agoda.com to book a decent hotel. You'll be looking to stay in Haad Rin, which is where the party is. Book soon as it will be full, and you will have to stay a minimum of 3-5 nights.I do want to make a suggestion, which is not to count on taking a taxi, motorbike, boat, or any other form of transportation other than your feet. Many of the drivers go to the full moon party too, so unless you want a drunk (and high) driver, and want to be on the road with lots of other drunk (and high) drivers, stay close enough to walk, even if it means staying another two nights.

It's tricky to recommend places to people without having any idea as to budget and what other amenities you are looking for, which is why I recommended looking on Agoda. You can see photos of the places, read reviews of each place, and get information for your options before booking somewhere. Haad Rin is small so anywhere there will be within walking distance to the party, easy.6
There are thousands of rooms In Had Rin and Sunset Beach, but for many you have to go and look. However, most switched on people will stay elsewhere on Phangan and travel there on the day, or stay on Samui and take the ferry there and back. That way there is no minimum stay policy.

Hi allThanks again. Does it make sense to stay on koh Samui during the FMP?
My budget is fairly open, but don't wanna spend more than $200/ night. I'm flexible because I need a clean place close to the action. Even though I'm backpacking, I'm not ok to stay in a backpacker dorm or a place infested with insects. Hope that helps clarify!
