'Done' the world in 4 years...

So it's possible, € 12,35 per day, 7 days per country, 201 stamps in the passport... done the world.

Done?

Well it's not all the countries in the world:
...has visited all 193 United Nations member states and Taiwan, Vatican City, the Palestinian territory, Kosovo, Western Sahara and the four home nations of the United Kingdom
and surely that adds up to 202?

Well, that's an average of 7.1 days in each country. Less, if you count travelling time between continents/islands.
I doubt he did much sightseeing while there, or engaged much with the locals.

Sounds like a typical itinerary of an American first-timer in western Europe.

Do you think he followed an itinerary or just made it up as he went along?

Did he look for the 'must sees' in each country?

Kaz...if the UK counts as a member state (one of the 193) then the 4 'home nations' should only count as 3 extra 'countries'...not 4.

That makes sense, lucapal, but as the United Kingdon of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - comprising of all 4 of those home nations - is just one member state, he can't count parts of it twice, so his total should be only 198.

The budget of £10 a day is very hard to believe too - I think we have a bloke here who can't count, but why bother when National Geo are paying?
(I seem to have taken an irrational dislike to him - might be the beard....)

I'm extremely dubious on his budget as well.....

I guess he got visas, free food and accommodation from 'sponsors'...and free travel as well...and that budget is just what he spent on chocolate and ProPlus.......

I agree with you...I'd do it as well.

Nonetheless,i prefer the way I'm doing it now...the same trip (more or less) but spread over 50 years ;-)

#14, luca pal, Not good for a Guinness (mentioner) I suppose, I know someone with a different but remarkable system. He bought a 60 page world atlas and after travelling 7 years he told me that he has 'done' 30 pages.

But he's a frequent flyer...

I'm sure the itinerary was well planned...especially to do the trip "on the cheap"...

Sounds like there could be a book deal in the works... Hope he took notes...and saw more than the train stations and the ticket booths...

Doing travel by trains, buses and ships...is always more interesting than airline travel...there are always stories to tell about surface travel...that you just can't get in today's homogenized airports...

I went to his web because I wanted to know the exact route, how he went to some countries (I think the OP didn't say it be he made it without flying)...

To make it short, take a look at his visit to Russia (you'll find it here) and draw your own conclusions.

BTW, there's an area/section of his web where he uploaded a photo of him in every country... The picture of Equatorial Guinea isn't taken in Equatorial Guinea... (draw your own conclusions too).
