Well it's not all the countries in the world:...has visited all 193 United Nations member states and Taiwan, Vatican City, the Palestinian territory, Kosovo, Western Sahara and the four home nations of the United Kingdom
and surely that adds up to 202?

That makes sense, lucapal, but as the United Kingdon of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - comprising of all 4 of those home nations - is just one member state, he can't count parts of it twice, so his total should be only 198.The budget of £10 a day is very hard to believe too - I think we have a bloke here who can't count, but why bother when National Geo are paying?
(I seem to have taken an irrational dislike to him - might be the beard....)

I'm sure the itinerary was well planned...especially to do the trip "on the cheap"...Sounds like there could be a book deal in the works... Hope he took notes...and saw more than the train stations and the ticket booths...
Doing travel by trains, buses and ships...is always more interesting than airline travel...there are always stories to tell about surface travel...that you just can't get in today's homogenized airports...

I went to his web because I wanted to know the exact route, how he went to some countries (I think the OP didn't say it be he made it without flying)...To make it short, take a look at his visit to Russia (you'll find it here) and draw your own conclusions.
BTW, there's an area/section of his web where he uploaded a photo of him in every country... The picture of Equatorial Guinea isn't taken in Equatorial Guinea... (draw your own conclusions too).
