Rio, Ilha Grande and Paraty Itinerary
Hi All!My husband and I will be in the Rio area for 10 days, 9 nights over the Christmas holidays. We have decided to spend our time in Rio, Ilha Grande and Paraty. Originally were were thinking Buzios, but people seem to have a lot better things to say about Paraty, so we chose that over Buzios.
I would love if you could take a look at the itinerary below and let us know your thoughts. Are these places good to spend our 9 nights at? Any other recommendations? Since we are traveling over Christmas Eve and Christmas, we would like to spend those days traveling since things won't be open, but are concerned about buses running on Christmas Day. Also, our 1 full day in Paraty would be on Christmas Eve, is that a bad thing?
Your help is much appreciated - Thanks!

I think there isn't enough time in Rio. Day 1 is your recovery day from a flight - you wont want to be doing much and the last day will see you packing and getting things together for your flight.I would skip Paraty and split your time between Rio and Ilha Grande.

The buses run normally on Christmas... your itinerary isn´t bad, though maybe a little bit rushed. On December 25th, you should leave Paraty early because there will be a Stevie Wonder concert for free in Copacabana Beach. Don´t know if it interests you, but it would be, certainly, a unique experience.

Where? On the beaches? It's too soon to tell... In mid December we will find out.Last year David Guetta played at Copacabana Beach, also The Black Eyed Peas has played in Ipanema several years ago. There are always a lot of brazilian atractions on the beaches and, sometimes, international ones.
There are several parties with confirmed line ups, but they are usually very expensive.

Thank you for your comments.inaciomartinelli - do you know what bus company or site I could look at to see if it runs on Christmas day from Paraty to Rio?
Thanks!

Try not to leave Parati out, the town itself is lovely and you should hire one of the many refurbished private fishing boats with captain for the day. They will take you around the islands and you can take your own food and drink on board (Ask at your hotel for a freezer box). If possible also visit nearby Trindade Beach.7
Thank you so much!nsantafe - I would very much like to keep Paraty in our itinerary. Do you think our itinerary works? I know it may seem rushed but I want to see all 3 places (including Trinidade). thanks!

What fishing boat? These are motorized schooner ("escuna") rides. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSAcCZWZ-AMDon't know if they run on Christmas, but you can Google and then try to contact.
For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSAcCZWZ-AM
You can walk to Trindade.

Yeah on the beaches. Thanks inancio. I'll keep an ear out for it.I think 2 days for Grande is too little, and 3 full days for Rio is too little.
I think you either need to cut one thing, or spend less time in Paraty (perhaps a day trip).

It's a little too rushed (agree with the comments about Rio) but it is doable so don't be discouraged. What you might need is a bit of planning about your time in Rio and don't spend too long on the beaches as you can do that in Isla Grande - although you must at least walk along them to soak up the atmosphere.12
Also, there's a lot of information contributed on this similar post so you might want to keep an eye on it too:http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2276994
