My boyfriend and I are planning New Years in South East Asia and hoped for some advice. We‘d like to spend New Year’s Eve in a place with a good atmosphere and a few good bars or maybe a street / beach party (so basically, we’re very open to options and countries as long as there is some sort of New Year's celebrations).
We’re flying into Kuala Lumpur late on the 29th December and are traveling around Asia for 2 weeks. We have literally no plans so the first concern is where to spend New Year’s and then we’ll plan the rest from there.
I’m not sure if I want to spend 2 days in Kuala Lumpur in order to spend New Year’s Eve there but perhaps it’s a great place for 2 days / New Years? I’ve looked at other posts on Thorntree and saw that Siam Rep and Sihanoukville get good reviews.
What do you think of Kuala Lumpur / Siam Rep / Sihanoukville as options? Any other ideas?
If not KL, ideally it would be a place which is one filght away (e.g Phuket / Siam Rep) but we do have 2 days to get there for if it’s a highly recommended place we would travel (e.g Sihanoukville)

3If you're only in Asia for a couple of weeks and you are going to go to Cambodia, ya, get to SR.

We're fairly open to options - NYE is the priority and we'd go from there!
Cambodia came up the most in old searches (mainly 2008/ 2009) so I thought, if people still recommend it why not or, if people have better suggestions, I'll go with that! Ok - so I'll take a look at Koh Phangan as well as Cambodia (and thanks!)
