getting from Amsterdam to Langkawi

Hi All,
I'm planning on doing 3 months of volunteer work in Langkawi with animals at the Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary starting in January. Right now I'm living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and I'm trying to figure out what the cheapest means of transportation to Malaysia would be. I looked into some websites about flying, and the cheapest flight I found to Malaysia from Amsterdam is around $550 USD. Are there thriftier ways of getting there that anyone knows of?
What do you all think?
Thanks
:-)

The cheapest airlines are usually Etihad, Qatar Airways and Saudi Arabian Airlines / Saudia. Find the links here. Maybe you should check Turkish Airlines as well.

Hi ajnhb720!

Welcome to TT!

Are you looking for a one-way ticket or a return ticket? Did you look at webs like Skyscanner, Kayak...? What airlines did you look so far (or what airlines appeared in the webs you looked)?

Don't you have Air Asia? They are really cheap.

How long since you had a look at where AA fly to? Was well documented they were pulling out of European destinations.

I only know because they pulled out about the same time as they did from NZ.

I knew they pulled out of Britain but I actually didn't realise that they had pulled out of Europe entirely. I haven't been looking to be honest - we only use them for short(ish) haul flights within Asia now.

AA use to fly to Abu Dhabi but pulled out of that route too. Anyone know what is behind this ?

Apparently they weren't selling enough seats to make a profit. Well that was the reason they gave for pulling out of the NZ sector anyway. I didn't know they pulled out of Abu Dhabi too.

No, it was the cost of aviation fuel on all flights over 11hrs.

But that doesn't really account for them stopping flying between Chch and Oz though unless they thought it was too much hassle to keep only those flights operating out of NZ.

Air Asia only ever flew between Christchurch and KL. Never to Australia.

Well that's why then (lol).

Do me (and yourselves) a favour folks - ignore everything I've said on this thread ...... it seems I've lost the plot (ha ha).

I've travelled from Amsterdam a few times, and I find that the cheapest airline was always KLM.
