First time backpacking

Hi,
I am a college senior (female), and am planning to travel alone in Spain before I meet up with my friend who lives in London.
I will probably have around 6-7 days. I know that my time is pretty limited, and I feel totally lost planning this.
I have high endurance so hopefully that is a plus!

I will be in Spain starting from around 12/16, so I want to visit more of the temperate places. I do not mind not visiting Madrid.

I would really really appreciate suggestions for a simple itinerary.

Thank you!

Madrid is lovely.
Cold in winter, though.

I'd suggest starting there or Barcelona (are you flying direct US-Spain, or via somewhere else?

Other than that, the south will be warmer. What do you like? Beaches? Galleries? Mountains?

In a week, you might fit in three places....

As suggested above...we need some input from you ..

ie...what are your interests? Why did you choose Spain?

Then..if you want 'good' weather you will need to be as far south as possible...

Have you already bought air tickets in and out of Spain?

For a first time visit to Spain of less than a week, I'd split the time between Seville and Granada, with more time in Seville. You could do a day trip to Cordoba if you wanted to.

For a week I'd recommend either Andalucia (Granada, Seville and Cordoba) in the south or Toledo, Segovia and Avila or Salamanca around Madrid.

Ah thank you so much! I have not purchased my tickets yet.
I will be flying straight from SFO to Spain.

I love the nature and looking at historical places. I am not so much a gallery-type person. Pretty much anywhere that has beautiful scenery would make me happy!
I chose Spain because all of my friends who have been to Europe say that Spain is there favorite place. Also, it seems like Spain would have the best weather during the winter.

See where exactly you can fly in to, but I'd suggest Madrid is pretty, historical and has nature around. Or you could say similar about Barcelona.
Then head south.

Then look at a Eurolines or budget airline flight to meet your friend.

To 410sunny:
If you can, please write in to LP and tell us how your trip to Spain went. Like you, I will be traveling solo to Spain for the first time over 8 days, starting Dec. 27. I also chose Andalucia for the possibility of slightly warmer weather, historical sites, the food, etc. But since I love museums, I am spending my first 3 nights (a weekend) in Madrid. Then, 2 nights in Seville (including New Year's Eve), and 2 nights in Granada, all via a Spain rail pass. On the trip back to Madrid, I plan to hop off the train in Cordoba for ~ 4 hours and pay what will likely be too short a visit to the Mezquita. I know it is a lot to pack into 8 days, but I really wanted to see the major highlights.

Of course! I mjd777. I ended up booking my tickets for Madrid because tickets to other Seville were wayyyy to expensive. But I definitely plan on visiting Andalucia, and will let you know about my whole trip.

I'll be in Spain the same time as you, and in similar places.

What type of traveling are you doing? I'd be interested to workshop gear lists, budgets, etc with you if our styles are similar.
