where to stay?

I plan to take my sister in law to Ireland for a week, she is a writer and wants ‘get to know’ Ireland. We are having a hard time navigating all these site and picking a place to go. She wants to stay in one town for the whole week so she can become familiar with it. Don’t laugh but, she wants to stay in a village/town with cozy bakeries, little pubs, cobblestone streets, that is located where she can also drive to the countryside. HELP!

All the sites seem to use the same stock photos of rolling hills and cliff’s so I’m not sure what the difference is in all these locations.
Thanks
Julia

We will be traveling from Phoenix, AZ, USA. We plan to rent a car. It is hard, not knowing anyone who has been there. we don’t want to be in a modern city but we don’t want to be so far out in the county that we cant walk to a café or pub for a meal.

Are you flying into Dublin or Shannon ?
Have you already booked flights ?
When are you arriving ? What time of year ?
Which airline ?

Other options might include Clonakilty, Kinsale, Dingle all might fit your bill. The latter might be a better bet as you could also visit the Ring of Kerry.

cobblestone streets
Don't get too set on those, and be aware that those that you see will mostly be of recent construction by those towns rich enough to afford this expensive form of paving.
It's well located for giving access to nice scenery, but not such a nice place, as a town.

The latter might be a better bet as you could also visit the Ring of Kerry.
Tralee would be better located for giving access to both Dingle and the Beara (popularly known as RoK). Though I'm not sufficiently familiar with the place to know whether I'd want to recommend a week there.
