Which Caye to choose for 4 days?
Hello everyone,I'm a long time reader, first time poster on lonely-planet. I need a bit of advise. My girlfriend and I will take a 4-5 day trip to Belize and I heard that the best places to stay were one of the Cayes. Do you guys have any advise on which Caye is the best to stay for a lot of peaceful relaxation, but also a lot of activities when we want to have some fun? (along with great beaches for my girlfriend)

Ambergris Caye has more restaurants, bars and nightlife and is much more hectic than Caye Caulker. If you are looking for more of a relaxing vacation, Caye Caulker is the better choice between the two islands.....you can always take the ferry to Ambergris for day trips. Regarding beaches, neither island is known for clean pristine white sand beaches. I still vote for Caulker.2
I also agree that Caye Caulker is the better choice. It is laid back but there are lots of nice restaurants and activities. The no cars in town is a plus too.There really isn't a good public beach but if you want to be able to relax by the water and catch some rays, you could stay at the Iguana Reef Inn - it's a more expensive hotel than the usual rustic cottage style places on the island but it includes a good continental breakfast, has a very clean and private beach area, a nice pool and kayaks that you can take out.

Me too--Caye Caulker. But not for beaches or exciting nightlife. For good food, nice people, good snorkeling and kayaking.
