Flying from the US to Cuba

Is it possible to fly from the US to Cuba on one ticket and bags checked through all the way?
After searching through flights to Cuba, I found Copa Airlines that offered me a flight from Las Vegas to Havana via Panama City in one ticket. They also confirmed that I could check my bags through to Havana when I check in for my flight in Las Vegas.
I thought under the US law, that was not possible.
Before parting with my money, I just wanted to make sure that what I am hearing is true.
Can anyone please confirm if this is correct?
Thanks.

It is certainly possible - I have had my bag checked all the way through with Cayman Airways: Miami - Grand Cayman, Grand Cayman - Havana. Apparantly it can't be done the other way, though.

I have flown Havana - Miami via Panama, but I think I had to collect and hand back the bag(s) in both directions.

The only way to know for sure is at check-in - for example, most if not all US bag tags printers can't print HAV bag tags, so "if" they can check all the way thru then it will be a manual bag tag.

Have a great trip !

I am only worried as I only have an hour and 15 minutes between flights in Panama and am not sure if it is enough time to collect my bags and recheck for the onward flight to Havana. Copa says its fine but being two separate tickets (although same airline), I am a bit concerned.

You have no choice but to trust what Copa is telling you. They're in control.

That said, pack your carry-on judiciously on the small chance your checked luggage is one flight later, but honestly, Copa is pretty good with their transfers in Panama.

Good luck and have fun.

Sorry - Chef is a regular poster here. He has reported on this issue/route before. Thought he might see the thread

How much time have you between flights in Panama ? Worst case is likely to be that you have to collect you bags and check them back in. Panama is a fairly compact airport and it is less hassle to do that here than, say, in Miami.

Thanks everyone. I am taking comfort in the fact that Copa tells me it is fine. The minumum connecting time at Panama City according to the airline is 30 minutes and bags apparently will be checked through all the way to Havana.

If anyone who flew on Copa recently via Panama City had a different experience, would be keen to hear that.

oops - sorry.

One hour fifteen is tight - but I suspect not impossible. (I can't recall how things were when I connected here some years ago).

What time is the flight ? - Copa has four a day to Havana, so if you do miss it , there is not too long to the next one. (Unlike the time that Iberia stranded me in Montreal with an impossible connection trying to get to Havana).

Trust what Copa is telling you. You're worrying about something that is out of your control.

I have flown Copa Airlines Los angeles to Havana via Panama twice and aslong as its on one reservation I have had no problems having it tagged to final destination.
Panama city airport is usually very easy to connect in as you just go from one get to another...with no need for passport control/security checks. So under most circumstances 1.5 hours is more than enough.
Beware than when I have bought two seperate tickets (Two diffrent reservations) LA to Panama and Panama to Havana.... they havent been able to tag my bag to Havana
and upon arrival at Panama I had to pick up my bags, Go through customs and re-check for my flight to Cuba. If this is your case I highly suggest you book a flight with atleast 4 hours for connecting.
I believe Copa airlines only has one flight per day from Las Vegas but have 4-5 to cuba...so you have more options to choose flights with enough connecting time.
