Budget's info

Hello ,

I'm trying to calculate how much money (avarage) will I need, to have a good (not luxury, but good) holiday-travel in north Argentina (BsAs, Mendoza, Cordoba, Rosario,...) and Chile (Santiago + Vina del Mar) travelling at the end of december - start of january (if that make any difference...?)...

Transports and accomodations excluded, how much do you estimate, each person - per day?

I tought around 100 USD (eating, trip, museum entry, taxi, etc..incl. some small shopping.. )

Any one can tell me if it's ok,..too much (better :-) ...),...or not enought?

I usually travel in SEA (Thailand, Cambodia, Maynmar,..) and of course it's really not the same :-)

Thanky you in advance!

Per day, it really depends on what one does on their travels. Some museums can be cheap, others expensive. I found most in Argentina to be on the cheaper side. But something like the Boca Juniors museum was more pricely.

50 USD a day would be quite reasonable for most parts. You might need a bit more if you eat in tourist areas, shop a lot and drink a lot.

I found 50-60 USD is about right in Argentina (it might be more now due to prices always increasing due to inflation).

Great, thank you trent84 !

I'm not shopping or drinking much, so - even with price's increasing - with 70 USD I should be ok, and that's perfect :-)

You should be fine. Its better to over budget than under budget. I was drinking a bit, and would of been about 50-60 dollars.

You might need that US$100 a day in Chile, especially in Viña del Mar entering high season. Lodging is going to be the biggest cost unless you are doing hostels. There are ways to keep food costs down and still eat well but lodging is expensive in Chile. There are some pretty good hostels in Santiago which have private rooms (Andes Hostel is one but there are plenty of others) which are good alternatives. Lodging in Viña is more along the lines of traditional hotels and B&Bs but Valparaíso has more hostels.

Your budget is more than enough for Argentina. Be aware that specifically Rosario and Buenos Aires can get very hot and sticky at this time of the year. Instead of visiting Cordoba and Rosario, consider to visit Salta and the surroundings

Thank you, Vnrose and Beerfree !

my question was only to be sure that my "planned budget" could be ok, as I never travelled in South America and of course it's not really the same as SEA .. :-)

accomodations already booked a couple of months ago, due to Christmas time and NYE !
:-)

Hi luluv,
The only thing I found really expensive in BA is travel- bus trips for longer journeys may cost you $80- $100 e.g. the 13 hour trip from Mendoza to Buenos Aires was $100 traveling in 'cama' class, where your seat is almost a full bed. However it was worth it to upgrade- the trip cost $90 in a seat that didn't really recline.

The bus to Puerto Iguazu is about 150 USD.
