Where are the New Years fireworks set off?

Hi all,

I am staying in Bangkok for New Years eve and am trying to find a hotel on the river that will look out at the fireworks on New Years Eve. As the river goes through town there are a number of hotels I can choose as well as sides that may have great views. But it can just as easily be that my view of the river is great, but the fireworks are on the other side of the building or rather far away.

Does anyone know where abouts on the river the fireworks are set off? Maybe in relation to a bridge that crosses the river? And any hotels that along the river that may be better than others?

I have never been there before and will only be there for 2 nights, so appreciate any help you can provide.

Thank you!

The major displays are put on by two groups - one is Oriental/Shangri-La/Peninsula the other is Royal Orchid Sheraton /Hilton.

They are now synchronised. Stay at any of those five, in a riverview room of course, and you'll get the best view.

If you want to be "under" the fireworks for free (and I'll probably regret telling you this!) head down the soi that has Harmonique restaurant (do your own research on that!), pass the temple geese at your own peril, and sit on the small ferry stage that is not used after hours, and you'll have THE best view of all. I'll be drinking Veuve, bring an extra bottle to pay for this priceless tip!

Or climb to the landing on the stairs that go from Saphan Thaksin public ferry pier up to the bridge above (Shangri-La hotel side)

Or buy a seat on one of the many ferries from Thaksin Pier that float out just to watch the fireworks, but hang in with locals or you'll be ripped off by one of the tourist operators - but whatever you think is fair. Locals will pay 30 baht, if you get one for up to 100 it's worth it.

Spectacular night. Tons of river activity. Go early to get best access. Nice loud echo if you are close to riverfront between Taksin bridge and Sheraton. Might want to catch the reflections off the window glass on surrounding buildings. Right next to Shangri La hotel is small pier. Take green and white ferry directly across river. Will be a few local tables set up along the riverfront. Maybe the best view this year will be somewhere in the newly opened River. http://www.theriverbangkok.com/EN/b_index.html

^^ Yes, but it's high security - you'd not get in unless you're an invited guest of an owner, and it's only sparsely occupied as of now.

I am staying at the Siam Riverside Hotel for NYE. Is there any fireworks around there?
