What do people expect when travelling?

Real experiences or a tourist bubble? Immersion in the culture or a high star hotel?

Hi - and welcome to Thorn Tree.

What do people expect when travelling?

Something new that I've never seen before.
Something tasty that I've not eaten or drank before.
A catchy tune that I've not heard before.
A new road that I've not driven on before.
Just a few bits from me ! !

A tourist bubble in a high star hotel! No real experiences, no immersion in the culture. I want to go abroad and get everything I get at home and sit in an aircon room watching tv!

i think the initial question doesnt really make sense. If you go on holiday to a foreign country for a finite period say 1 week... How can you possible be anything else but a tourist/visitor. What does immersion mean ? High star hotel? so if you stay in a Pensione are you now immersing? but if you stay in the Hilton you are not ?
And what is a Real Experience? Tourist bubble I assume is staying in a major hotel and eating all your meals there and not talking to any locals except the hotel staff...

When travelling it is reasonable to assume that everyone's expectations will differ. That's called being individuals, not clones.

The question really makes no sense given that the answer will differ for every individual on every trip they make.

Instead, I would ask what is it you are actually trying to say or trying to find out and how is it connected to the Shoestring branch?

I prefer seeing normal life in places. Not festivals or holidays.

Getting lost is a bonus. I worked on Swedish ships. I worked and lived with folks of many nationalities. Most selfless, out of their way help, was given me by professed athiests.

It was my introduction to the outside world. Beyond
"the only way to live."

stereotypes and paradigms are bogus.

No expectations / no dissappointments.

I am very partial to at least one night in a classy hotel. I have paid a lot and been disappointed and paid less only to be pleasantly surprised. I like, with caution, also trying alcoholic drinks and brands that are new to me. There have been many different results and reactions!
