Working in Singapore
Hi, if I am to accept a Managerial position in Singapore, what is the average weekly working hours like? The MOM website says 44 hours, but I know better than to trust governments. It's of mid-level Managerial nature, not exactly senior. I have a department to run though.
Some friends says it's more like 50 over hours.
And there is only 14-day leave.

Interesting. Even 25 years ago (when I last worked for a living) it would never have occured to me to ask what amount of hours I might expect to work. I might have noticed what hours their office was open, I might not. But as far as how many hours I as a Manager would work, the answer is as many as it took to get the job done. Now if we are talking the back of shop burger flipper manager in a MickeyD's, I can understand expecting there to be an actual number of hours. But if we are talking a manager in a business of a more serious and better paid nature, I have to wonder about the person applying for the job. It sounds like an employee mentality, not a managerial or ambitious mentality.

No concept of work-life balance? Is staying behind to please the boss, considered work? I heard that what people do over there.Business Researches concluded that Singaporeans work the longest hours, yet have the lowest productivity. Getting the work done? I wonder what work you are referring to?
The number of working hours does not equal to productivity (especially creativity). As the working hours go up, creativity comes down. Please stop applying the 19th century industrial-age mentality to this 21st century.
Btw, a manager is also an employee

Oh to be young and naive again.First landofsnows, an employee is someone who thinks of themself as an employee. I worked with various companies during my working life but never worked for anyone but myself. It's a mentality.
Second, I retired in my early 40s so I don't think I need to hear about work-life balance. As for staying behind to 'please the boss' see my first comment. I pleased myself. It might also help you to know that working late is a sign of not being able to get the job done during the time allotted. Arriving early on the other hand is seen as a sign of eagerness, ambition.
What industry are you employed in landof snows and what department will you be managing? Without knowing just what kind of business you are talking about, it's meaningless. As I wrote you could be a manager at MacDonalds based on what you have written.
During my last few years of my working life, I was an independent management consultant whom companies paid to tell them how to manage people. You don't get paid $1500 a day (25 years ago) if you don't know what you are talking about.

"why do you think singaporeans spend all their time shopping?"That would explain why the Singaporeans that I'm currently dealing with at work have made no progress whatsoever in the project that I'm running!!
As to how long a working week is, it varies. Some weeks I can get everything done within a couple of days yet during busy periods I work considerably more than my contracted hours to get the work done.
