Is Tezpur, Assam Safe??

Is Tezpur, Assam Safe??

I am a Canadian citizen planning to travel to Tezpur, Assam, to meet some of my boyfriend's relatives there. Due to the recent outbreak of ethnic violence at the Assam/Bangladesh border, does anyone know if it safe to fly from Calcutta to Tezpur and travel around Tezpur area?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

I dont think tezpur has an airport. Troubles can start and disappear at any moment.
but you would be far enough away for those specific problems at the border not to worry about them.

I cycled throughout the whole region last month. Tezpur is fine. Friendly people and no one will try and screw you except for those in the transport business.
