Driving in East Chiapas

Hope to get confirmation (or not) that I can drive (in a 'normal' rental car, not SUV/4Wheel) in mid-January from Palenque beyond Bonampak & Yaxhilan/Frontera Corozal to ultimately reach Comitan without having to double back toward Palenque. Does the road south beyond Frontera Corozal toward Pico de Oro and Chajul link up with Route 307 or must I follow the road southeast next to the Rio Usumacinta before it becomes Rte. 307 going west? If my wife & I complete Bonampak & Yaxhilan by mid-afternoon, any recommendations for a place to stay along the way, reaching it before the sun goes down? I am aware of accomodations in Las Guacamayas and nearby, but I guess my biggest concern is whether the road goes thru to Rte. 307, and it's reasonably driveable (not high speed, needless to say) but more than 15 miles per hour, given what may be 'pot holes'. Thanks for any more help/suggestions/directions.

If the road goes through you will be able to drive it. Don¡t drive at night.

I have not traveled this road, but a cursory check indicates Google Maps has photographed it, and you can check the condition of the road (the section I checked looked excellent, if narrow) using the Streetview application.
