398 fake guides arrested in five months

According to a report on the View from Fez blog the Brigade Touristique arrested 398 'faux guides' in Fez in the period Jan-May 2012, citing fraud and theft as the reasons for the arrest.

...... I read in the same article also arrested "68 individuals described as insane", so who were these unfortunates, tourists perhaps.....

LMAO at mention of possible insane tourists, who probably were overwhelmed by fake guides.
I wonder what punishment the fake guides got???

I know there's a lot of chancers around, but 398 seems a very high figure. I wonder how many of the 398 were repeats...

Certainly the BT in Fez seem to have the tourist hassle/scam problems a bit more under control than in Marrakech.
