Peak season- do I need to plan tours/adventures ahead?

I am headed to Thailand next month. Because it is Peak season I booked all my hostels/hotels ahead of time. However, I was not planning on booking an tours/trekking adventures etc until I get there. Will this be fine in December-January time period? Any advice is greatly appreciated! I will be headed to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Krabi and Railay.

Thailand have plenty of organized tours, but for trekking if you will do this in wildlife sanctuary and some national park you might need to contract travel agent before.

I think you've got the right idea. Book the tours / trekking when you get to Thailand.

You'll be fine doing it that way, and actually save money and make better choices booking locally. Virtually no activity is "full" even at the last minute and even in high season. Arrive at each place, check a few options and compare prices. Avoid the temptation to book things in advance even in Bangkok where some naughty agents pose as the "official" tourism office then way overcharge.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it. I get a little Type-A sometimes with planning so I will just plan to book eveyrthing when we arrive.

Outside of some expensive places like Phuket you don't really need hostels. Ordinary guesthouses are cheaper and mostly don't have advance booking or websites. Even in peak season with few exceptions you can still wing it and find places to stay on the spot..

Would you say it's safe to get an inexpensive decent guest house upon arrival around the 11th in Railay or Koh Lanta? I'm also pretty type A when it comes to booking in advance...

:)

Thanks.
