Suggested sights in Western Europe and England

Hi,

I am setting off for a 7 week trip to England and Western Europe. I will be visiting England, France, Italy, Hungary, Germany and Austria. It is a relatively fast paced itinerary, I was more or less wondering what people think are some of the things that are a must see/do in these countries.

Any opinions are appreciated, thanks!

Depends on what you're interested in...

History, art, music, theatre...the general reasons you go to Europe for. And anything that 18 year old girls are interested in. I also like slightly quirky or "off the beaten track" non tourist type things. I like having different pictures and stories to tell :)

have you tried reading a guidebook? what stood out? what not? Nobody here is going to write a 7 week itinerary for you. God (and the TT) helps those who help themselves. Amen

Especially for the theatres do you understand French, Italian, Hungarian and German?

LP shoestring guide is a good start.

Read that first and then post some specific questions on here!

I didn't ask for an itinerary, I've already done that. I just asked for any suggestions, some people may have found things that aren't in guide books jeez no need to be rude about it . And about the only language I don't understand of those is Hungarian.

Thanks lucapal, I'll check that out :)

Ok...

If you already have an itinerary why not post it on here?

Don't expect only positive comments though ;-)

Every town has an info booth, with lots already written. In English too.

And if you get robbed its not the country's fault.

Stret sense and serendipity rule.

Look that up too.

Shopping and backpacking are rarely used in the same sentance.

Oh yeah! Buy souvenir t-shirts in colors and designs that you can wear when dressed up.

Lots are made by Friut of the Loom. But wash them in the sink a few times. Not with other laundry.

Can you please give us your itinerary then? (note: a list of countries is not an itinerary, so I presume you have a more detailed itinerary in mind)

no need to be rude about it
TO8, with all due respect, please look at this from our perspective: the problem for people who want to offer suggestions is that a) you say you want to visit 6 countries in only 7 weeks, b) have so far been quite vague about your interests (you can find history and art everywhere in Europe) and c) haven't mentioned what places in these countries you certainly want to visit.

This type of thread works best if you start by giving us a rough idea of your itinerary (i.e. based on cities, towns etc you definitely want to visit) and list a few examples of what places you've read about and found interesting. That way it's a lot easier for us to suggest alternative destinations or specific attractions.

I just don't have my itinerary in front of me, I am at work. I'm also new to this, guess the rude comment from one of the other Posts wasn't really necessary, a simple "do you have an itinerary?" might have been sufficent. I do understand that you need something more. Which I will provide when I can.

I was typing my previous reply when lucapal and gawkabout posted, hence the partial overlap of our replies - just to clarify that we're not teaming up against you or something.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this but England (UK) is in Western Europe.

You may also like to read Time Out guides- their city editions are excellent. Lots of insider information and of course cheaper and lighter than an LP city guide.

I didn't ask for an itinerary, I've already done that
Then I suppose you already have a list of places (not countries) you'd like to visit? It's much easier to give suggestions based on which places you're visiting, rather than countries.

TO8 was editing her post so I didn't read
"a simple "do you have an itinerary?" might have been sufficent. I do understand that you need something more. Which I will provide when I can."
when I wrote
"It's much easier to give suggestions based on which places you're visiting, rather than countries"

Just a clarification.

ALso wrote this when Aribo and Lucapal were typing so didn't see their messages (and hence the overlap) then...
