Guyana, Suriname, Brasil, Paraguay, Uraguay, Bolivia, Argentina Trip
Hey fell TTers,Been reading the forums for a number of years, and decided its about high time I get on here for some advice, insight, comments, etc! I'm a 26yr old guy, traveling solo for the first time, but pretty experienced traveling in general.
I'm coming down from Toronto, Canada for 2 months in South America, and looking to make the most of the time I have. Going to be end of November till the end of January. Definitely going to be taking some flights to cut down on some time, but not too many because I actually like traveling on the ground and seeing the sights.
I'm starting in GT, Guyana with some friends and then making my way solo for the rest of the trip to Suriname for a day or two. From there I'm thinking a boat trip from Manaus to Belem, bus (or plane if there is no bus) to Salvador, and then bus to Rio, with stops wherever in between. I'll definitely be in Rio for at Christmas and New Years, thinking two weeks as there's a lot I want to see and do nature and activity wise, as well as party wise (definitely want to party up in SA). Then onto Sao Paulo, Fernanda de Noronha possibly if I can afford it, and at least 4-5 days in the Pantanal as I'm huge into wildlife. Iguaza Falls of course as well. I'm up in the air from here as the best way to get to BA, Valdes Peninsula, other animal spots and check it out as well as the Salt Flats in Bolivia. Uruguay and Paraguay I haven't researched too much yet, but their right in between so I want to stop there too.
I know its probably too much to do in 8 weeks, but do you think its possible, and what kinda route? If not, things I might want to cut out? I definitely want to see the major sites such as the falls and Corcovado, but as much wildlife as possible, and a lot of partying and dancing. Also planning on a bunch of activities like bungee jumping, skydiving (depending on cost), cliff diving, hang gliding, rafting, climbing etc.
Planning on doing this on a budget of 3-4000CD, which is basically USD. Haven't booked anything in terms of internal flights, places to stay or activities, so I have an open schedule, even if I have a basic itinerary I can divert to do what I want when I'm there. I'm guessing I should be booking stuff in Rio though because of the the time I'm there?
So would appreciate any advice in terms of travel, stay, places to see, party, wildlife, recommendations, everything pretty much. Nothing in set in stone, so I'd love your help! Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi meeks003!Welcome to TT!
Guyana, Suriname, Brasil, Paraguay, Uraguay, Bolivia, Argentina Trip
I'll definitely be in Rio for at Christmas and New Years, thinking two weeks as there's a lot I want to see and do nature and activity wise, as well as party wise (definitely want to party up in SA).
If you only have two months and you plan to spend two weeks in Rio and you plan to visit other places in Brazil too, you'll have less than a week for each one of the rest of the countries you quoted...
I'm starting in GT, Guyana with some friends and then making my way solo for the rest of the trip to Suriname for a day or two. From there I'm thinking a boat trip from Manaus to Belem
I guess you'll have a reason to go to Suriname only for a day or two. I don't know what will you be able to see/visit in such sort time. Are you aware you'll need to get a visa to go to Suriname? How do you plan to go from Guyane to Suriname? Overland? By plane? How do you plan to go back to Guyane in order to go to Manaus?
I think you should make more research about South America and make a more detailed intinerary including the places you plan to visit, the time you plan to stay there, the time it takes to go from one place to another...

Hey all, thanks for getting back so quick!I do know I need a visa for Suriname, I was planning on getting it in GT when I'm there. I was planning going there just to visit some of the nature reserves, thats the sole reason really. Haven't checked flights, but was planning on overland travel, might be able to get a ride from a friend, might not, in which case I'll look at the mini buses.
I was thinking this...maybe its a little too tight:
Suriname: 1-3 days
Brazil: 4 weeks (including amazon trip, iguazu, and pantanal)
Arg: 1 week
Bol: 1 week
Uru: 1 week
Par: 1 week
It does look a little rushed now that I'm seeing it. What would you suggest as a better route? I'm hoping to end in BA so I can catch a flight home from there. Is 4000 too low? I have friends in Rio, so I'll be with them for some of the time, and in hostels some of the time, so that should alleviate some cost. Also planning on some overnight trips, and some hammocking. I just based it loosely on $50/day which gave me a budget of $3000, and then another $1000 for internal flights, excursions etc. I'm not counting my flight to and from Canada in this.

Too far, and not enough money. Brazil is huge and expensive, and you're looking at a lot of travel.Basic advice: decide whether to include Brazil. If so, gather more cash, then exclude Argentina (except Buenos Aires), Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and anything else extraneous. Give Guyana and Suriname a bit more time (and money, if you're trying to get out and spend time in the jungle).
If not including Brazil, you can have a nice trip in Argentina, Chile and Bolivia. You'll still want more money. Paraguay's fine, but not much of a destination; Uruguay's nice too, but nothing special if you're coming from Brazilian beaches.
Hope that's helpful.

Yah thats very helpful! Brasil is top of the list, so definitely going to do that. I'll think I'll take your advice and exclude the middle countries and just do BA in Arg. I've been the guyana already, so maybe more time in Suriname, and then Brasil. I figure after that its all up in the air, so if i want to stay longer there I can, and if not i can make my way to BA. Thanks again for the help8
You can also fly from Paramaribo to Belem.9
I know Paraguay, have a very nice places and is no so expensive, but it is no easy to travel around the country, you could fine information in this page:www.paraguaysafari.com
