Thailand is a super easy place to travel solo. It might be the easiest place in the world to travel. It's cheap too. Safe as it gets if you keep away from the drugs. Only problem is you might have trouble staying single....17
The South Pacific Islands, Melanesian and Polynesian, are super friendly and definitely not racist. I've not been to Micronesia so can't comment on that area. Never had a problem with visas - tourist visas - you can normally extend them as well, in some of the SP countries anyway. However it's not easy to get work or immigration visas, even volunteering usually requires a special visa. But it might be too hot for the OP, depending on what he/she considers hot.18
Ethiopia. A great place and if you think of Ethiopia as "that place where they have the famines" you will be wonderfully surprised. There are many budget travelers and the opportunities to meet other travelers is wide open.In the north the south there are the tribes of South Omo. If people gawking is not your thing, there are the historic sites in the north (Gondar, Axum, Bar Dahr, and Lalibella). I will let you research the sites so you can decide for yourself if they are something that would interest you.
Ethiopia celebrates Orthodox Easter so it may not coincide with western Easter, but that would be a good time to visit.
There are plenty of backpacker budget hotels, but if you are looking for Sheraton Quality at $15 a night, you will be disappointed.

As a global traveller I meet people from all over world. Mostly from Australia, Japan, S. Korea, Western Europe (Including UK, Ireland), Americans, Canadians and rarely from NZL, Scandinavia, South America, Russia, Ex-CIS, SEA, Iran & so on.If someone is not interested in talking with you or ignoring you then it doesn't mean he or she is a racist person. As the other way round of course you cannot like each & every person on planet.
Recently I was in Western Europe and visited 7 countries (plus Vatican city). Overall I found Swiss, Liechtensteinian, Dutch & German very friendly but Austrians, Czech & Italians less friendly. But I cannot call them racist. However British females always give me tough time and it happens every time :(
