1See http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14416.aspx for full fare details (Kings cross is zone 1, Heathrow zone 6, so you need a zones 1-6 ticket).
Each way: £5.30 cash, or if you have an oyster card £4.80 (peak times), £2.90 (non-peak times).
Here's an explanation of what an oyster card is if you don't know http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14836.aspx

How long do the quickest buses take from LHR to Central London?
I've never considered using one.

4A bus from Heathrow to Central London will take you DAYS! Take the tube. Piccadilly Line goes direct from Heathrow to Kings Cross.

Thanks for that. I somehow had the idea that it only took about 17 hours.

9Oh, buses are great if you want the scenic route. On a sunny day you can't beat 'em. Plus, they go to places you can't easily get to without tube changes.
I'd advise travellers to take buses if they want to see what London looks like. But when time is short, and between major stops, the tube wins hands down.
London is very well served by public transport, I think.

12After a delayed flight from Munich last year, I had to get the night bus to the Strand from Heathrow....it took about 2 hours. I was so gutted to have missed the last tube of the night by minutes. Definately take the tube, as the ride (even during the day) is really not that great.

13Billy - when I mentioned 'scenic' I was talking about London generally. A visitor to London misses out on a lot if they always go by tube.
Ed - I thought the chav wagons were west end rickshaws

14*13 - go_2.... I didn't mean it to sound insulting in any way.
I just found the expression 'Scenic route', when referring to London, very funny. That's all.
